Great Game, No Lag
The game is great; arguably the best CoD game ever made. This port runs smooth, and the graphics still look pretty nice even after all theses years. Suprising lighting effects, detailed textures, and great level design make for a great looking game. Some of the terrain looks rigid and low polygon, but this is easily overlooked. The sound in CoD 2 is even better than the graphics, and better than all of the following CoD games in my opinion. Teammates will shout out enemy locations and mortars will whistle as they hit the ground. The sound is very immersive and moodsetting, and makes you feel like youre in an intense battle. Occassionally, musical scores will kick in.
CoD 2 has a much longer campaign than any other CoD before or after it. The campaign will provide many hours of fun the first time, and will still be fun several more times as the levels arent so linear that they play out in exactly the same way. The enemies in the game actually have pretty great AI. It is VERY aggressive, and forces you to be on the move. As you progress, you play through the viewpoint of an American soldier on the western front, a Russian on the Eastern front, and a British soldier fighting against the Afrika Korps. All of these perspectives are very well done, and offer lots of variety between missions.
The one thing all buyers should be aware of, is that the multiplayer community for this game is dwindling. Unfortunately, not many people play any more, and any servers you do find are highly modded and require you to download additional content. These few servers are fun in their own right, but they arent exactly the vanilla multiplayer expirience. Hopefully this introduction to the App Store will increase the player count.
All this being said, I give the game a 5/5. Its nearly perfect, but sadly the community is starting to phase out.
